Good call Netflix!
After Netflix announced back in July that they would be splitting into two companies, people left in Droves!
I just received an email today from Netflix, that they will no longer be going with the plan of splitting the company in two. But rather keeping it as once company, Netflix, like they should.
Think about how much they must have alienated their customers by not just raising their prices, (which is probably a good idea on their part) but taking away their prime service of the DVD’s and making the streaming more expensive.
Now… It may seem to Netflix that streaming gets used more then the DVD through mail… But what they are missing is the whole point of folks signing up for Netflix in the first place.
The selling point of Netflix is not the Streaming of their content, because there’s plenty of options out there for that, but rather… the operation model they have in place to deliver fast quality DVD’s to your door within days of requesting one.
Now… I know that folks probably end up using the streaming of movies and shows more then the DVD by mail option, but… the whole point of Netflix existence, the whole selling point or their unique selling position is the fact that they do indeed support that outdated technology we call the DVD!
No other company can rival the DVD delivery efficiency of Netflix. Even REDbox requires you to drive to the box to pick up and return the DVD.
When Netflix decided to split the company back in July, they literally slit their own throat, and threw their unique selling position right in the trash.
Just because your a big company, does not mean your immune to market demands and wants.
People want Netflix for their DVD’s on demand through the mail. Period. The streaming is just a bonus all the customers take for granted as an extra service from Netflix as another reason to stick around with them and not go with a company like Block Buster.
Congrats Netflix on getting to the realization that all of your customers all ready knew, and were screaming at you for the last few months, that splitting your company up was not a good idea. Maybe you guys will be able to recover from this one… maybe you won’t and get bought out by Google.
Either way, a sincere THANK YOU Netflix for not changing your companies structure on me. I for one will remain a happy customer streaming content with the peace of mind I can have a DVD sent to my door within days as soon as I drop my 3 month old Netflix DVD in the mail.
